Writing Practice references the square block (田字格) - a commonly seen learning or training material that facilitates writing practices on Chinese characters, writing exercises, and writing exams. The writing in this case is removed from the text, remaining only punctuations including commas, full stops, and two spaces before each paragraph as the main body of work. As a form of visual poetry or concrete poetry, writing practice deliberately reduced the usage of words or sentences to call attention to the standard formatting within Chinese writing. These rules and disciplines are reflected concerning literature and linguistics, where audiences may wonder philosophically about the limitation of expression, situated knowledge, and thinking. Writing Practice was also made at a time when artist was away from home and living in the UK, the only text in the work - 风景 (scenery) - was chosen to provoke sentiments triggered by this physical separation between the events in her homeland and herself.
